Forests cover around 30% of the world’s land area and, according to the think tank, Climate Focus, an area the size of the UK is lost to deforestation each year. When a tree is cut down, the carbon it has been storing is released back into the atmosphere, which leads to increases in the global temperature.
2024 was the first year to pass the 1.5c global warming limit, this is despite world leaders agreeing at COP21 in 2015 that they would try to avoid this, and this means that the last 10 years are now the warmest 10 years on record. Because of deforestation, an estimated 1 million species are threatened with extinction.
At COP26, world leaders agreed to end deforestation by 2030, this would save as much carbon as taking all the world’s cars off the road.
The Greener Earth Project was founded in 2020. Here’s what we have achieved in the past four years. We have worked with community groups and tree planting companies to plant trees around the planet.
That’s 2,372,930.00 kg of potential CO2e sequestered each year, based on an average 21.77 kg mature tree annually.
Our main areas of planting in 2024 have been in Tanzania, Kenya, Indonesia and Nicaragua.

Our vision is to plant 1 million trees.
We plan to expand our network of business partners, which will allow businesses of all sizes to work with us to help plant trees, allowing us to receive more donations which will help us reach our goal of 1 million trees.
We expanded our network of tree planting partners to now include Australia, Indonesia and Nicaragua, this is on top of the partners we already had in Kenya and the UK and now means we are able to offer a tree planting option in any continent of the planet (except Antarctica).
The groups we have chosen to work with are all facing unique difficulties in their countries, but are all aiming to restore forests and increase biodiversity. However, we recognise that whilst most businesses do genuinely want to do more for the planet, some might want to plant for the wrong reasons and therefore greenwashing. As such, our team will qualify each business before onboarding to ensure their planting for the right reasons.
We will also continue to offer our monthly memberships for individuals, this allows members to plant a set number of trees each month depending on their subscription and will offer donors the option of which country they plant their trees in.
As well as planting trees, all of the money we raise helps to provide work to the local community, and monitoring of the site after the planting has finished, to ensure it stays healthy and safe.
